Central-Hungary

Central Hungary comprises Pest county and the capital, Budapest. This is a separate region. 28% of the population live here, while this region is only 7% of the total area. It comprises several landscapes, and soe of them borders it, like the Alföld (Great Plain). That is why Pest county is called the Gate of the Great Plain. It also has or borders mountains like Börzsöny, Pilis, Buda or Visegrád, and there are several beautiful small settlements in the region, among the hills. There are isles in the river Donau like Szentendre-isle, Ráckeve-isle or the Dunamente. At the feet of Buda Mountains is there the basin of Zsámbék. Tétény-plateau, Tápiómente, Gödöllő Hills, Pest Plain and Galgamente are also found in Central Hungary. The capital, Budapest is there in Pest county. The capital is the centre of the domestic cultural and academic life, famous for its art galleries, museums and theaters. Its unique location and the beautiful panorama makes it a perfect and special turistic destination. Budapest is also hosts many international, world-famous festivals.
