Buddhist Stupa, Zalaszántó
A Korean monk initiated to build the biggest buddhist stupa in Europe at the top of a hill in Zalaszántó. The chancel was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in the Park of Human Rights. Inside the stupa there are buddhist relics,a 24 m high life of tree and a Buddha statue, all from South Korea. It is incredible when you suddenly discover the 30 m high building in a small clearing on the top of Kovácsi Hill. Once you are in Zalaszántó, it is also worth to visit the Watermill Museum of the Balaton Uplands National Park; the educational path near the mill offers a pleasant walk in the forest. In the neighbourhood of Zalaszántó is there the Castle of Rezi. From the castle there’s a beautiful view to the Keszthely Mountains. Do not forget to visit the stupa, if you are planning to see the Lake Balaton!
Adventure Tours in Csodabogyos Cave, Balatonederics
The Csodabogyos Cave in Balatonederics is the most extreme place in the Balaton Uplands National Park. You can easily reach the cave by foot, and there are guided tours for visitors. There are basic tours for beginners, and extreme tours for experienced and brave attendants in good physical condition. Equipment is provided. Hegyestű, Monoszló
Hegyestű, this strange hill is part of the first geopark in Hungary in the protected landscape area of Káli Basin. The open-air geological exhibition’s owned by the Balaton Uplands National Park. If you climb the basalt organs of Hegyestű, you’ll see other hills that also witness the former volcanic activity in the region. Hegyestű is easily available by car. It is not only the spectacular view, but also the special atmosphere which makes the hill a unique place. Competent resources state that there are special energy flows along the ruptures of the hill, so sometimes you can find people relax and meditate there. Close to this park is there a small village in Káli Basin called Salföld, with an excellent open-air exhibition and farm of traditional Hungarian domesticated animals like gray cattles, buffalos, lambs, horses and different breeds of dogs.
Kis-Balaton
A prominent spectacle in the small region of Kis-Balaton is the Balaton Uplands National Park’sbuffalo preserve area. The farm is open to visitors every day. The other special attraction is the palette of the different kind of birds; in Kányavári isle, you can find herons, blue herons and cormorants in their national environment. The exhibition about the flora and fauna of Kis-Balaton is found in Zalavár, near the Memorial Column of Cirill and Metod. Kis-Balaton is a fishing paradise. You can meet lots of satisfied anglers while walking on the water baffles. If you are int he neighbourhood, it is worth to have a refreshing bath in the medical and family spa in Zalakaros.
