Győr-Moson-Sopron county lies in the Western-Transdanubian region. Its seat is Győr, also known as the "City of Rivers". Its natural border on the north is the Danube (with Slovakia), its neighbour on the west is Austria, Komárom-Esztergom county on the east, Veszprém on the south and Vas county on the south-west. Three landscapes, the Transdanubian Highlands, Kisalföld and "the feet of the Alps" meet in the territory of the county. The biggest rivers of the area are the Danube, Rába and Rábca. Two sights of the county, the Millenary Benedictine Abbey in Pannonhalma and its natural environment, and the Fertő/ Neusiedlersee cultural landscape are on the world heritage list as cultural legacies. There are two significant , historic castles in Fertőd and in Nagycenk. Szigetköz is a popular place among canoe, kayak and water sport fans. If you feel like going to a spa, you must visit Balf, Hegykő or Lipót. The most beautiful open-air theater of Hungary is found in Fertőrákos, in the local quarry. Do not miss the baroque wedding in Győr, the Volt Festival in Sopron or one of the music fests in Fertőd in memoriam Haydn if you visit this part of Hungary.
