Heves county is part of North Hungary. Its centre is Eger, the castle played an important role in the battles against the Turks. The county is located in the western side of Bükk and Mátra Mountains. The area's natural values are guarded by the Bükk National Park. There are several little villages and settlements in the hills with cures and treatments for different respiratory and vein illnesses. Mátraháza, Mártafüred and Galyatető are the best-known examples for cure places. Spas of Parád and Bükkszék are very popular. A A mofetta, the first and sole dry bath of Hungary is found in Mátraderecske. The bath is suitable for patients with different vein strictures. It is worth to visit the fountain in Egerszalók, which is also a basic water source of the local spa. The most famous medieval castle is found in Eger, but there are castles in Kisnána and Sirok as well. Eger and Gyöngyös are famous for their wines. Lake Tisza is found in the southern part of the county, where places like Poroszló, Sarud or Kisköre welcome the tourists.
